Warning on Fraud Relating to Numismatic Businesses

1.       Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) would like to caution members of the public against social media accounts posing as old notes and coin collectors and offering to buy old notes and coins at a very attractive price. These offers may be attempts by fraudsters to deceive victims into making payments for transactions that will never materialise.

2.       Members of the public should exercise extreme caution when coming across what appears to be business transactions of high value and rarity on social media platforms, be it in the form of buying or selling. Unknown buyers may request for a number of fees, such as fees for bank transfers, before the payments can go through. Similarly, unknown sellers may request for advance or upfront payments before the promised products are released. The fraudsters may also ask for personal banking information.

3.       Members of the public are advised to ignore such requests and refrain from giving personal banking information to anyone under any circumstances. AMBD will never request for personal banking information when communicating with customers through telephone calls, emails or SMS.

4.       For further information and enquiries, members of the public may contact AMBD through the AMBD App, by calling the AMBD at hotline 2388388, or by emailing
